Visiting James in Oxford. April 2011

Site updated on 19 Apr 2011

The Literary Festival was in full swing. As was our Christchurch fun- including sitting in on Evening Song with some visiting monks. And after Paulie attended a number of sessions we planned for our drive to France. When the sun eventually came out, we took full advantage of it including the dusting off of our punting pole - not used since 2009.

Visiting James at work

Back in the Christ Church hall for a gin tasting!

serious business. "Millers" and a Scots entry "Botanical" won the day for us

Dinner at a St Clements pub. A Brisbanite on staff?

A quick London trip. Sloane Square blooms

A Kingston stop over where Paulie (care of James) had a 3 hour spa treatment. Great!

Back to the festival. Paulie startled by the change - sun!

Crime writers in action - Mark Billingham, Colin Dexter (of Morse fame) and Veronica Stallwood

This Porter can't resist the sun

and with the sun, we can't resist punting to the Vic Arms

A true sign of generational change! The punting pole passes to James

...and years of training paid off!

Stephen is so confident with his skills, he chills

But Stephen mutinies to get in his punting quota

What's that up there?

The weather brings out the crazies. A wing-walker on the bi-plane

A tough day

The tulips bloom

We all head to France, but some stops on the way in Kent.

Common Kent architecture

And we arrive at Sissinghurst- bought to life in the 1930s by Vita Sackville-West and husband Harold Nicolson

Vita shacked up in the tower with Jame's favourite writer Virginia Woolf when she visited. Something the National Trust don't talk about a lot :-)

Only catch is the grounds were closed. We had to tempt law abiding ex-copper Neil to enter "by mistake"

Paulie has always wanted to visit the beautiful gardens

On the Dover ferry and ready for Dunkirk

James captures the white cliffs
